![]() Consequently, Myst IV: Revelation may potentially be the most polished game for the celebrated series. Every element that fans love about the series has been greatly improved, and almost all of the flaws that have haunted the previous titles have been addressed. In many ways, Myst IV: Revelation can probably be described as a "make or break" title for this long running franchise. The worlds of Myst are seldom as they seem at first, however, and it is likely that fans will experience many "revelations" as they explore this fourth adventure.Īny fan playing this game may get the distinctive feeling that everything which has happened in the Myst series so far has been building up to the monumental sequel that is Myst IV: Revelation. Atrus' young daughter Yeesha has gone missing, and players are put in a unique position to help save her. Yet despite their many discoveries, one question has remained: Whatever happened to Sirrus and Achenar, the two feuding sons of the original adventure's extra-dimensional explorer Atrus? Players may very well discover the answer to this question - and many others - in Myst IV. Since the breakthrough release of the first Myst game in 1994, fans have visited countless alternate dimensions and surreal realms. (the three books, not necessary but they are very rich and well written even if there were not games to go with and really add to the games, best if read after Riven so not to spoil some of it.After adventuring through the ages, gamers return to the original realms of Myst in Revelation, the fourth full title in the series. Best order to read the books, Book of Atrus, Book of Ti'Anna, and the Book of D'ni) (the three books, not necessary but they are very rich and well written even if there were not games to go with and really add to the games, best if read after Riven so not to spoil some of it. In terms of playing order I would recommend A benefit of the real-time for both URU and Myst V is that they can be played natively at HD resolutions (the steam version is not in HD yet but does have a patch still in beta although URU Live already can be) The game's story does not work well as an ending to the main Myst series but works fairly well if you play through the main story of URU first. It is real-time like URU, but you only play in first person like the previous Myst games and have a choice between point and click or free-roam. Myst V was originally intended as an expansion to URU but was made into a standalone game as result of the cancelation of the URU MMO. The two are largely the same game notable differences are that URU Live’s puzzles are modified in some cases to require more than one person to solve them. The steam and gog versions are the standalone with the expansion packs included called URU Complete Chronicles.Ĭyan has brought back the MMO version called URU Live, that can be played for free. It is rather notable in that it lets you create a custom character who can look like you, you can play in both the 3rd and first person. It is in real-time 3D and you can roam around the environments and goes much deeper in the history of the D'ni civilization. But Ubisoft at the time was the producer and decided that people were less interested in multiplayer game and canned the MMO plan and had it released with its two expansions as a single player game, resulting in Cyan taking severe losses being the most expensive game Cyan has ever made. URU is a spin-off but still take place in the same world. You get to meet Yeesha when she is a young girl, puzzles are notably very difficult, some for the right reasons and some for the wrong reasons, one puzzle being the least liked in the Myst series. Although many including found the story weaker than its predecessors it is still a decent game and the story is still fairly decent but has contradiction issues with the story of the first Myst game. It is easily the biggest budget game in the Myst series, (likely biggest budget pre-rendered point and click game period) and it shows, incredibly lavish and detailed environments and deeper interaction. Myst IV is the game that takes place after Myst III Exile, instead of just producing it Ubisoft developed it in house. ![]() ![]() Essentially it is Myst as originally intended, otherwise it plays the same. Myst Masterpiece is the 32-bit version with the greater number of colors adds more detail among other enhancements. ![]() When Myst was made it was actually made with 32-bit colors but computers at the time only supported 256 so it was only a 256 version that was released at the time. ![]()
